It has been implied for years that management and leadership are virtually synonymous. It makes sense, given that managers are often looked to as leaders within an organization. However, not all managers are great leaders and not all leaders are in management roles. Here are 5 important differences between managers and leaders.
Safety on the job site is something all employees should take seriously – nothing less than the future of your family is at stake. An on-the-job accident could very easily disable you, leaving security and future plans up in the air.
Do you know how long the average employee stays with a company? With the hard-to-swallow cost of attrition, the average tenure is not nearly as long as you would hope. The current average is estimated right around 4 years for most employees, and closer to 3 years for employees under the age of 35. Year over year, these numbers are continuing to drop as job-hopping tendencies among employees are on the rise.
Odds are you have used such ride-sharing apps like Uber, Lyft, or Sidecar on a vacation, business trip, or getting to or from a sporting event, but did you ever think of the insurance implications? Ride-sharing businesses are different than taxi or livery businesses and not subject to the same insurance regulations (yet). A ride-sharing company connects passengers to drivers via a smart phone app usually on short notice but they can be arranged in advance. While you might expect that your personal auto policy is not designed to cover a side business as an Uber driver, you might not have thought about your employees and their use of your vehicle for the same.
Learning that an employee was involved in an accident on company time is alarming. Even more troubling is when you find out the at-fault driver doesn’t have coverage or is underinsured. While most states require drivers to maintain auto insurance, according to recent study by the Insurance Research Council (IRC), one in eight motorists remain uninsured. Uninsured motorist (UM) and underinsured motorist (UIM) are coverage options added to your commercial auto policy for transferring risk in such unfortunate circumstances.
Commercial General Liability policies were not designed, nor do they include coverage, for Professional Liability. There is a perception that contractors do not need professional liability coverage, but this isn’t a safe assumption. We are accustomed to seeing Professional Liability exclusions for architects, engineers, surveyors, and other professionals. It’s easy to understand why many assume this exclusion does not apply to a contractor.
